      அப்போஸ்தலனாகிய பவுல் உட்பட   இருநூற்றெழுபத்தாறு பேர், அகுஸ்து பட்டாளத்தை சேர்ந்த யூலியு என்னும் பேர்க்கொண்ட நூற்றுக்கதிபதியின் தலைமையில், இத்தாலியா தேசத்திற்கு, போகும்படி கப்பல் பிரயாணம் செய்தார்கள்.   அப்பொழுது யூரோக்கிலியத்தோன்   என்னும் கடும் காற்று, அவர்களை   தாக்கிற்று. கப்பல்   அதில் சிக்கிக் கொண்டபடியினால் அவர்களால்   தொடர்ந்து   பயணம்   செய்ய முடியவில்லை.   கப்பலின்   தளவாடங்களையும், சரக்குகளையும் கைகளினால் எடுத்து, கடலில் எறிந்தார்கள்.   பல நாட்களாக   சூரியனையாவது,   நட்சத்திரங்களையாவது காணாமலும், போஜனம் பண்ணாமலும், இனித் தப்பிப்பிழைப்போம் என்கின்ற நம்பிக்கை இல்லாமலும் இருந்தார்கள்.   அவர்களை அந்தகார இருள் சூழ்ந்திருந்தது.     அப்பொழுது, பவுல் அவர்கள் நடுவே நின்று கப்பற்சேதமேயல்லாமல், உங்களில் ஒருவருக்கும் பிராணச் சேதம் வராது என்று தைரியம் சொன்னான். ஏனென்றால், முந்தின நாள் இரவு பவுலே பயப்படாதே!   நீ இராயனுக்கு முன்பாக நிற்க வேண்டும்.   இதோ,   உன்...

Then a tempestuous wind called the Euroclydon, struck them. They could not continue sailing because the ship was stuck in it. So they took the ship's tackle overboard with their own hands and threw them into the sea. For many days they had not seen the sun or the stars, had not eaten and had no hope of surviving.
